Doctor Who set report: The Runaway Bride 24/07/06
[Yes, I met David Tennant again and yeah, I'm very aware how much of a lucky cow I am! hehe!]

In a word, today has been fantastic. So much has happened, so I'll try and be as coherent as possble, given that it is pretty late at night and I'm well and truly knackered.

I am gunna start on a bit of a sentimental note, so some of you may want to skip this.

One of the best things, by far, about watching on-location filming, is the people you meet. A significant number of my "Who" friends, who I've met either through the fandom or filming, have gone on to become really good mates. Yeah sometimes the people can be really pushy and annoying, but today was really nice. Specifically, there was Nikki and her kids, who were all really lovely (more about them later) and some LJers including cerulean_blu aka Elisa and fire_faery2 (and some of her friends) -- (see, I said I'd give you a shout out)!

Enough of that, on with the real details.

I arrived in town late (what's new?!) much to the annoyance of Kati (sorry!). When we got there, David Tennant and Catherine Tate (along with some extras) were already shooting some running scenes. There were lots of decorations around; trees, tinsel, presents, Santa's, snowmen and more. Howell's was once again Henriks. The Doctor and Donna ran upward, then she got into a phone box (no, not the TARDIS) and started speaking to someone. I think she may have been ringing for a taxi, because shortly after that, she gets into one (did I mention...AN EVIL SANTA WAS DRIVING IT!!! =O). Then the Doctor ran up to a cash machine, standing behind a guy impatiently as someone was already at it. Then he turns, seeing three Santa's approaching him, lowering their instruments ominously (pilot fish, anyone?). In between takes stampedes of children and parents would rush forward, basically mobbing David. We held back, because, well, rushing forward like that is just plain rude.

While all this was happening, we realised Sophia Myles (aka Madame de Pompadour) was on set as well. Not everyone seemed to realise this though some did approach her for autographs/pictures. Shortly after, we retired into "Is it?". This turned out to be a very clever move, considering that's where the cast were disappearing to between takes. We honestly did not realise this until AFTER we'd bought drinks and sat down.

They spent a lot of time re-doing the same scene, so we stayed inside mostly, given that it was so hot. You should've seen the look on all our faces when David Tennant started zooming in and out of the pub. And when I say zooming, I'm not exaggerating. He's like those battery bunnies, constantly bouncing, running this way, running that way.

Kati had brought her programme from a 2000 performance of Romeo & Juliet (in which David was Romeo) and she managed to get him to sign it when he came in. He seemed really surprised and she was, well, shaking. Some random drunk person asked David, "Are you famous?" to which he responded, "If you have to ask that question then probably not." haha.

A little while after that Sophia came in and she posed for pictures with all of us. Kati shook her hand after pronouncing her name right, apparently she was the only person to have done so all day! Sophia was really REALLY nice. I thanked her for agreeing and she was like "No problem, babes." Once again, I look like crap, but she was really lovely. Again, like David, she was really genuine too. We stood in the entrance of the bar watching the same scene being shot from different angles. The Santa masks seem to have had some slight alterations (didn't RTD complain that he didn't like them last year?) but they were really quite creepy.

Things did seem to quieten down a bit later on. We met up with my cousin and then came back to the pub again, where the same scene was being done, except the Santa's were now seen firing at the cash point (just before they did this, the Doctor turned and shouted "DONNA!", but I think she was in the taxi by that point)...resulting in lots of cash floating in the air. The first time they did this, a lot of it shot toward on-lookers...and let's just say they'll probably find they're a few pieces short. Having said that, it wasn't entirely down to the fans; some of the crew were chucking the notes over to us. Nice one guys. Even moreso because...haha...they had pictures of the cast/crew on them...I got a £10 Tennant note. hehe. Shortly after this, I got "recognised", which is definitely a first for me. It was slightly weird but cool at the same time. That was when I met up with Elisa and the other LJers *waves*

Later on David came down from the upper level in the pub and signed a lot of autographs for kids. Nikki, who I mentioned earlier, even managed to get a kiss on the cheek off him! haha. She was shaking so much after, sipping away on her wine. I think he totally made her year. And my cousin...omg, she wolf-whistled at David as he walked past and he winked at her. Just before he went up the stairs, I got David to sign a Doomsday postcard (with the Doctor and Rose on THAT beach). He asked where I got it from and I told him about the screening and how they were giving them out free there (they aren't for sale). Kati had also bought some chocolate earlier and gave him a Cadbury's Creme Egg bar, saying she heard he liked them. He asked how she knew and she just sort of pointed at me...haha...and I was like O.o and just kind of shrugged and said I'd read it somewhere. Way to be put on the spot. He took the bar anyway and I assume, given his reaction, that he DOES in fact like them.

Kati had her camera on her and she asked for a picture...except she meant with her. Slight confusion; because she had the camera David assumed she meant for him to pose with ME...and as a result, I got a picture with him for the SECOND time in a week. I'm a cow, I know. Eventually she got a picture with him, after two failed attempts. His minder was getting a bit ratty, but when she explained that the picture hadn't taken, David agreed to pose again for her, sort of laughing, saying we were gunna get him into trouble. Bless.

Following that, they did some other bits on St. Mary Street where the Doctor and Donna were running up and down, trying to get a taxi (I think this happens before the other scene, in terms of the story). They get jeered at by some drivers and then the Doctor whistles, which makes passersby cover their ears (as well as Donna). They get in the taxi but shortly after they get back out, with Donna shouting about "Christmas Spirit" and basically being gobby. Then they ran back down another pavement. Considering Donna did get a taxi in the scene filmed before, I'm assuming the bit with them trying to hail one, comes before the whole phone/taxi/cash machine/Santa's thing, though I could be wrong. I mean, why would she get in a taxi and then hail one later again?

Other random bits; lots of Christmas posters were dated 2006. Donna wore white converse shoes under her dress. One of the traffic cones used to section of areas, had Torchwood written on it.

So that's pretty much it. I've probably forgotten something. If I have, I'll edit it in later.

Now, onto the pictures.

Also, the BBC has this article with a spoilery bit.

A Doctor Who insider revealed that audiences will see her morph into a giant bride before exploding across the screen.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK thats so amazing, check how NEAR you were to the stuff. The autograph is amazing and the prop is just funny LOL.

Okay.. so I was squeeing when you got the pictures with David last time. Now I'm just drooling with envy over the shot with Sophia..

You are an awesome recapper. You got some great pics. I love that Doctor/Rose post card. Maybe one day you will get Billie to sign it.
Emma: Hands2marcella_riddle on July 25th, 2006 01:03 am (UTC)
I hope so considering there's a pretty big space for her to.

Could I convince you to trade lives with me for a bit? You come work in the stuffy accounting firm, and I'll go watch the lovelies. Please?

*cries*

Here from doctorwho and once again jealous that you got to meet him again.

How would you mispronounce Sophia Myles? It isn't that hard, is it, unless she has a different way to pronounce it other than the usual way?
Suze: doctor 10 - dorktastic!auntiesuze on July 25th, 2006 02:11 am (UTC)
I think she pronounces it SophEYEa rather than SophEEEa.

Last straw: now I've got to friend you. Honestly, I've ended up on this journal far too many times in the last few weeks not to and this is just too fantastic a post - and not just for the pictures, but the brilliant recap as well - for me not to add you. Hope that's okay, I promise to keep relatively quiet.

Oh and well done on living in Cardiff. Very. Smart. Move.
Donnatalkinaboutme on July 25th, 2006 02:54 am (UTC)
I'm nearly to the point of friending you too; I am so envious of your ability to go down and see some of the filming and pix and and and .... :)

A character named "Donna"?! *squee*
OoOhOHhohHHoHoHoHOOHHHHHHHh!!!!

Yes, I'm American; yes, my real name is Donna; and do I understand that there's a character named Donna in the Christmas special that you saw them filming!?

OH that's just too darned cool!!!!

Re: A character named "Donna"?! *squee*
Absolutely freaky! (not really) but my name is Donna too! And when I first heard this, I was so, so, so happy. It helped with the post-Doomsday Blues, especially since my second name's Rose and in my little head that means utterances of "Donna, Rose was the love the of my life" and I just ignore the comma. And that's my random ramblings quota filled.

omg - stumbled across this post, and I have to say you are quite possibly one of the luckiest people ever...the picture of you and Sophia is adorable, haha

Nice recap! can I just put my pics up and point to your LJ for the story lol? ;-) Seriously, my brain was mush last night, but nice one!
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go to work (yes it's 6am, gah!).
Emma: Laughmarcella_riddle on July 25th, 2006 07:09 am (UTC)
Sure. It is spelt Elisa, right?

Dude my brain is liquid. haha.

This post is really freaking cool. And I think they need to film an episode in Seattle. Hell, half the population could be alien, and we'd never know, otherwise.

!! This is so fabulous!!
I'm totally living vicariously through you!

Oh, and I think in all seriousness, the Doctor definitely needs to make a stop in Texas... I'd die to see him pokin' along in sum' cowboy boots. Too funny.

Again, awesome pics!

Wow! That's just... amazing!
How many times have you met him? You are soooo lucky!
*is jealous*
I sent him a letter last year, but I never got a response. And being in Australia, I don't have the possibility of simply popping over to Cardiff on the odd chance of meeting him. *is sad*

And he even wrote Love David Tennant on the photo! What I would give for that. I would literally go ::THUD:: on the spot! *is thinking of being sneaky and asking/begging you to get an autograph for me if you see him again*

A ten pound Tennant note! Wow! That's so cool! And all those pictures are just great! Sounds like you had a fantastic time. It must be great being in the middle of it all and getting to see all this fantastic stuff going on.
